what is audio description?

Audio description is a service provided to blind and partially sighted people who attend theatre, cinema, art exhibitions etc.

The visual aspects of an event are described in a clear and concise manner in order for the user to have a full access to it.

There are audio description options on some satellite television channels and in some cinemas. More and more films on dvd also have an option.

In theatre, cinema and street theatre the description is usually received by means of a headset worn by the user and delivered by the describer via a radio or infra red system.

For examples of description please go to the 'Examples' page.
